About California Proposition 65

California’s Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, commonly known as Proposition 65, requires businesses to provide warnings to California consumers about significant exposure to chemicals identified by the State of California as causing cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm.

The Proposition 65 chemical list is maintained and updated by the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (“OEHHA”).

Why You May See a Proposition 65 Warning

Some products sold by Queen Tee’s Herbal Teas and Tinctures may require a Proposition 65 warning based on their ingredients, packaging, manufacturing process, or the potential level of exposure to a listed chemical.

Herbs, teas, spices, and other plant-based ingredients can absorb naturally occurring minerals and environmental substances from soil, air, and water. Depending on their source and growing conditions, botanical ingredients may contain trace amounts of substances such as lead, cadmium, or inorganic arsenic.

This does not mean that every Queen Tee’s product contains these substances or requires a Proposition 65 warning. Warning requirements are based on the anticipated level of exposure—not simply whether a listed chemical can be detected.

What a Proposition 65 Warning Means

A Proposition 65 warning:

  • Notifies California consumers of potential exposure to one or more listed chemicals.

  • Does not necessarily mean that a product is unsafe.

  • Does not mean that a product violates federal or state product-safety standards.

  • Does not establish that use of the product will cause cancer, birth defects, or reproductive harm.

Queen Tee’s provides applicable warnings so California customers can make informed purchasing decisions.

Product-Specific Warnings

When Queen Tee’s determines that a product requires a Proposition 65 warning, the warning may be displayed:

  • On the applicable product page;

  • Through a clearly marked Proposition 65 warning link;

  • Before the customer completes an online purchase;

  • On the product label or packaging; or

  • On accompanying product materials.

The wording of each warning may differ depending on the chemical involved, the type of exposure, and the health effect identified by California.

This general notice is provided for consumer information and does not replace any product-specific warning required by law.

Products Without a Warning

The absence of a Proposition 65 warning does not necessarily mean that a product contains no listed chemicals. It may mean that Queen Tee’s has determined, based on information reasonably available to us, that:

  • The anticipated exposure does not require a warning;

  • The exposure is below an applicable California safe-harbor level;

  • No applicable exposure has been identified; or

  • A legal exemption or exclusion applies.

Supplier and Product Information

Queen Tee’s may use information provided by growers, ingredient suppliers, manufacturers, distributors, testing laboratories, and other vendors when evaluating whether a warning is appropriate.

Where available, we review relevant supplier documentation and testing information. Because agricultural ingredients and sourcing conditions can change, warning information may also be revised when new or updated information becomes available.
